Meet the Owner

Hi, nice to meet you! I’m Jay Samolowicz, owner of NJ Swingsets & Playgrounds. And yes, that is me, my wife Erika and our kids Carly, Brooke and Tyler!

Before any of this I worked in finance, on the tech side, implementing new technology at large banks. I was at Lehman Brothers when it went down in 2008. After that, I was a 30-year-old Vice President working at 60 Wall Street. On the outside I was doing great. On the inside, I was tired, over stressed and burnt out. The more I advanced in my career, the less fulfilled I felt.

I made the immensely difficult decision to leave my career and try starting my own business. After years of trial and error, a stroke of luck put me in touch with another swing set store owner. I was introduced to a completely different world than what I was used to. Watching his store operate lit a fire in me. I LOVED the idea of working directly with families and putting smiles on children’s faces.

In 2013, with a $25,000 loan from my uncle, I took a huge leap of faith and NJ Swingsets was born! I’ve been at it ever since.

On PIX11’s “Design Recipes”

Cathy Hobbs once asked us to design a kids’ outdoor play area for her PIX11 show “Design Recipes.” It ran as a two-part segment. Here’s part 2:

Our team

A few of the people you’ll deal with:

• Lauren runs parties and events. Anyone who has a party will work with her.
• Tom runs the office. Most people who purchase a residential set, hoop or trampoline will work with Tom.
• Rob and Tony are our lead installers.
• Elizabeth does a little of everything.

Our employees live in the same communities as our customers. Our children share the same classrooms as our customers’ children. We prefer a friendly conversation over making you punch numbers into an automated phone menu.

Certifications and memberships

On the safety side, I’m a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI #59746-1226, searchable in the NRPA registry) and I hold the Recreation Installation Specialist Certification (RISC), listed in the RISC directory. We’re members of the National Playground Contractors Association, the New Jersey Recreation and Park Association and the National Recreation and Park Association.

What We Do

1. Commercial playgrounds

We design, supply and install playgrounds for schools, parks and towns. The equipment comes from Playground Equipment, Psagot Playgrounds, Grounds For Play, Sports Play and Ultra Play. We handle the surfacing and can add Superior Shade structures. For public buyers, we’re an awarded vendor on the Bergen County Cooperative Pricing System (#CK04, contract BC-BID-24-35). Here’s a recent project of ours: the fully accessible playground at Erie St Park in the Village of Goshen, New York.

2. Residential swing sets, hoops and trampolines

Our backyard sets are Playground One (cedar) and King Swings (vinyl). We offer delivery and installation on all of them, plus surfacing to go under them. Indoor and outdoor basketball hoops from First Team, Ironclad and PROFormance get the same delivery and installation, and so do trampolines from Springfree and North. Browse our backyard swing sets.

3. Birthday parties and indoor play

Our Midland Park showroom doubles as a party and play space. We host private birthday parties and events there. Party details and booking.

Who Installs Your Playground or Swing Set

So who shows up at your house or school? Rob and Tony, our lead installers. They do all the residential jobs and some of the commercial jobs. Commercial work is done both in house and with trusted partners. It depends on the job.

Our Midland Park Showroom

We’re at 59 Greenwood Ave, Unit 9, Midland Park, NJ 07432. Our hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM, closed Sunday. Saturdays are party days, and walk-ins are still welcome while parties are going on.

Kids play on the same floor where people shop: six residential swing sets, two commercial playground pieces, a trampoline and three basketball hoops on a court, plus a small gameroom next to our office. Photos only tell you so much about a swing set. Watching your kids play on them tells you a lot more!

Where We Work

How Working With Us Goes

Here’s roughly how it starts:

1. You call 201-670-4000, email team@njswingsets.com or stop by the showroom, and ask your questions to one of our experts.
2. If it helps, you can ask us about a yard check at your house or a site visit at your school, park or town.
3. We talk through your space, the kids who’ll use it and your budget, and put together a quote.
4. You order, and we schedule delivery and installation. Most people have us do the install, but some prefer to do it themselves.
